DAY 3: My Afghan"ish" Kitchen

Inspired by Ariana Kabob Cafe, I tried a couple of dishes at home
From the cookbook, New Middle Eastern Vegetarian, by Sally Butcher
her version of Burani Banjohn
Very good!  You must sop it up with a basket of fresh baked naan bread.
My Firnee--cardamom pistachio pudding.  Turned out okay, but I added too much rosewater. I made a second batch without rosewater, which was, well, better.  'Still working on it

  1. This is a wonderful blog. Your last review brought back memories of Kabul, an amazing Afghan restaurant in Sunnyvale, California (www.kabulrestaurant.net). Living where we do now, we have to prepare our own Middle Eastern dishes using ingredients from our local grocery store. In fact, Eric decided to try making buranji banjohn last night . . . it was delicious. Thank you for the inspiration!

  2. Thank you, Anne. The next time you're in the Denver area you'll have to do some shopping in Aurora. So much of Afghan and Persian cooking is in the spices(dried)--most of which you can get at a number of grocery stores up here and take back home! I'm about to post about Arash, which is a fantastic Persian market.I wonder if they do any mail order??
